I am on the Job Market
Karibu!
My name is Fenet, I completed my PhD in Economics at the University of Trier, Germany in 2024 with summa cum laude distinction. My research interests lie in development, labour, and health economics with a focus on gender and immigration. In my research, I examine the economic integration of refugees and other migrants in the German labor market, examining the employment gap between natives and different immigrant groups. With my coauthor Uwe Jirjahn, I examine the consequences of integration into the society and workplace on trade union membership of immigrants in Germany.
Moreover, using data from Ethiopia, I investigate the role of occupational segregation on the gender wage gap and the effect of women's economic empowerment on intimate partner violence in Ethiopia. In 2022, I won the Best Paper Award from the EU-Mediterranean and African Network for Economic Studies (EMANES). Currently, I am investigating the causal effects of internet use on child marriage in Ethiopia. I have extensive experience in micro-econometric analysis and advanced econometric methods using cross-sectional and panel datasets.
